Makaha Pili Kalea Lani, or more simply Pele, maintains that she is the daughter of her mother, a Hawaiian woman living around the time that Captain Cook arrived in Hawaii, and Pele (her namesake) the Goddess of the Volcano.

She also claims that she was a fierce pirate whose name was so terrifying that other pirates dared not to speak it, which is why it's not in any of the legends or historical accounts.

She further says that she is a famous mafia boss, the inventor of chewing gum, a magician, a demon, an angel, a genius, Einstein's father, and the next messiah.

Not all of these are true.

Pele was a pirate. She stowed away on a ship leaving for Europe and disguised herself as a boy so that she could stay on and work. She took the name of Keahi while she was masquerading as a boy. She met Bastian, her best friend, during this time. Although he vanished once in pursuit of an elusive woman in green, Pele insists that he has always been her devoted servant, best friend, and purveyor of fine pants.

Pele, after she was done being a pirate, spent some time in circuses, smuggling, performing, and other odd business ventures and escapades.

She did once work with the mafia and remains under the protection of a very influential family.

She also danced with a Arab prince at a ball once. She was the envy of most women (and some men) there.

Pele is a pathological inventor of tales that may or may not be true. She is also a werecat. One of the few left in the world.

From time to time she maintains that she is really a boy and often cross dresses the part. She is not very well endowed in the chest area and so she does this very convincingly. Pele loves to take things apart but can never put them back together. She has bitten the devil and dispsensed love advice to a samurai. She is also a Space Pirate Amazon Ninja Catgirl. Maybe.

Pele has also appeared in a space-themed story as herself with a few alterations.
