Comments: If you’re curious... this isn’t fan invented slash. This pair of lovers actually feature in Book 9 of the Aeneid. Lines 241 - 251 of Robert Fitzgerald’s translation (the good one) of Vergil’s Aeneid.

They were supposed to be keeping watch, and they were, sort of.

Only it was the Italians they were meant to be watching for, but Nisus couldn’t keep his eyes off Euryalus. They’d been together since the Fall of Troy. Stealing moments when they could, fleeting touches in the shadows of Carthage, and meaningful glances while their captain met with the Italian king, Evander.

And now they stood, close together, with the excuse of the temperature. Nisus held his lover’s hand and stroked his soft skin gently with a fingertip. They shared furtive whispers over their watch.

“I love you.”
